Siemens Partners with Kinaway!
Overview of the Partner’s business
Siemens is a global technology leader committed to supporting communities through innovation in industry, infrastructure, mobility, and healthcare. Our purpose is to transform the everyday, for everyone. By combining the real and the digital worlds, we help our customers accelerate their journeys toward sustainability and digitalisation, working together to create more efficient industries, more liveable communities, and more sustainable ways of moving. Siemens has been present in Australia for over 150 years, beginning with the construction of the Overland Telegraph line from Adelaide to Darwin in 1872 — a project that crossed many traditional lands.
How has the Partner engaged with the Indigenous sector?
Since beginning our reconciliation journey, Siemens has taken meaningful steps toward building stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. We acknowledge there is always more to learn and do, and we remain committed to listening, reflecting, and growing on this path together.
Some of the initiatives we are most proud of include:
‘Siemens in Australia’ Aboriginal Artwork: In partnership with Sunbury Aboriginal Corporation, and under the guidance of Bundjalung/Yorta Yorta man, historian, educator, and artist John Patten, a powerful artwork was created to reflect Siemens’ 150-year journey across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Told through a South-Eastern Aboriginal lens, the story is brought to life by Aboriginal youth who beautifully captured Siemens’ contributions — from the Overland Telegraph and the Parkes radio telescope, to energy efficiency at the MCG. This artwork, which honours the perspective of the world’s oldest continuing cultures, is proudly displayed in our offices and has also been featured on items such as drink bottles (sourced via Welcome to Country), scarves, and shirts — shared with our teams, customers, and partners.
Hornsdale Wind Farm Collaboration: At Hornsdale, we are honoured to have supported the creation of the first wind farm in the world to feature Aboriginal artwork. Created by artists from the Ngadjuri and Nukunu Nations — the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the wind farm stands — the artwork tells stories of deep connection to Country, the land, wind, and elements. It’s a proud example of how clean energy and cultural heritage can exist in harmony.
First Nations-Designed Hi-Vis Workwear: We partnered with Luke Penrith Arts and Designs to create hi-vis shirts featuring First Nations artwork on the sleeves and collars. These designs, representing Luke’s heritage from the Wiradjuri, Wotjobaluk, Yuin, and Gumbaynggirr Nations, are worn by our employees on-site and have been gifted locally and globally — sparking conversation, respect, and pride in Indigenous design.
Why did the Partner sign up with Kinaway and how does the partner hope to benefit from the partnership with Kinaway?
At Siemens, we believe that genuine collaboration is essential to creating meaningful and lasting change. Joining Kinaway was an important step in deepening our understanding of the unique needs, strengths, and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and communities. Through this partnership, we hope to build stronger relationships, listen and learn with humility, and support greater opportunities for self-determination, economic empowerment, and reconciliation. We see Kinaway not just as a network, but as a valued partner in our ongoing journey toward a more inclusive and respectful future.
What is the Partner’s mission or aim in supporting the Indigenous economy? How will Kinaway member businesses benefit from this partnership?
At Siemens, we believe true innovation is driven by diversity of thought, culture, and experience. Our mission in supporting the Indigenous economy is to walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in creating opportunities that foster economic empowerment, cultural recognition, and long-term, self-determined success.
Through our partnership with Kinaway, we aim to build respectful relationships with Indigenous-owned businesses, creating pathways to share knowledge, collaborate on projects, and open doors to new opportunities. By bringing together our collective strengths, we can challenge the status quo and build a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future — one that celebrates and uplifts the voices, talents, and leadership of First Nations peoples.
How does the Partner hope to benefit from their partnership with Kinaway?
Siemens is proud to be partnering with Kinaway and warmly welcomes their involvement in our Reconciliation Action Plan working group. We deeply value the insight, cultural knowledge, and lived experience that Kinaway brings through their strong connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
By working closely with Kinaway, we aim to ensure that First Nations voices are not only heard but are central to shaping our approach. Their guidance will help us invest our time, resources, and cultural learning in the most respectful and impactful ways — fostering stronger, more meaningful partnerships built on trust and understanding.
