Overview of the Partner’s business
Built Environs delivers complex building and social infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand.
For 40 years, we’ve worked across sectors including health, education, sport and leisure, defence, commercial and community infrastructure. Our approach is built around strong relationships, practical thinking and working collaboratively with our clients, partners and supply chain to deliver quality outcomes safely.
Engagement with the Indigenous sector & actions toward reconciliation
Our first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan formalised our commitment to building strong, respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This was followed by our Innovate RAP, which concluded in June 2025 and continued to build our understanding, awareness and engagement. Our Reconciliation Working Group is now working with Reconciliation Australia to develop our next RAP and continue that progress.
Alongside our RAP commitments, we are focused on creating practical opportunities through employment, training, procurement and community engagement. Aboriginal subcontractors, suppliers and labour hire companies are engaged across our projects, and we continue to look for ways to increase participation and create further opportunities for Aboriginal businesses within our supply chain.
Our partnership with Kinaway is another step in strengthening this approach, particularly in Victoria, helping us build stronger connections with Aboriginal businesses and identify new opportunities to work together.
Why did the Partner sign up with Kinaway?
We joined Kinaway to strengthen our engagement with Aboriginal businesses in Victoria and create more opportunities for them to participate in our supply chain.
A key driver was the opportunity to connect with businesses earlier, particularly during the tender phase. Kinaway provides a direct connection to a strong network of Aboriginal businesses, helping us strengthen existing relationships and establish new ones. Importantly, it creates opportunities to engage businesses and build relationships that can develop into meaningful, ongoing commercial opportunities.
What is the Partner’s mission or aim in supporting the Indigenous economy? How will Kinaway member businesses benefit from this partnership?
We want to create meaningful and lasting opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and businesses through employment, training, procurement and community engagement. We hope this leads to greater access to opportunities, stronger engagement with our project and procurement teams and, over time, ongoing commercial relationships with Built Environs.
How does the Partner hope to benefit from their partnership with Kinaway?
We hope the partnership will help us better understand the Aboriginal business sector in Victoria and build relationships with a broader range of suppliers and service providers.
Through Kinaway’s network, events and industry engagement, our teams will have more opportunities to meet Aboriginal businesses, understand their capabilities and connect them with relevant opportunities across our projects.
Over time, we’d like to see those introductions develop into strong, ongoing relationships. It will also help us continue improving how we approach Aboriginal participation and procurement across our Victorian projects.
